En nombre del pueblo saharaui, del gobierno de la República Saharaui y en el mío propio, permítame expresarle nuestra sincera felicitación por su elección como nuevo presidente de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos así como al hermano pueblo mexicano por depositar su confianza en Usted para que juntos emprendéis una nueva etapa de trabajo en pro del beneficio de su país.
Aprovecho esta ocasión para reiterarle nuestra disposición de continuar reforzando los lazos de amistad que unen nuestros dos pueblos. Le renuevo, asimismo, nuestro reconocimiento por la firme posición de su país en defensa de los valores de paz y justicia mundiales, y en particular el derecho del pueblo saharaui a la autodeterminación y a la independencia.

El alcalde de Ibi, Rafael Serralta, y representantes de los diferentes partidos políticos que conforman la Corporación Municipal han dado la bienvenida al grupo de 23 niños y niñas saharauis que van a pasar el verano con familias de acogida de la comarca y provincia en los municipios de Ibi, Tibi, Alcoy, San Vicente, Alicante y Penáguila, entre otros.
La Asociación Dajla, con sede central en San Vicente, es la entidad que organiza las acogidas de niños y niñas saharauis en diferentes localidades de la provincia. Los niños, que tienen edades comprendidas entre los 10 y los 13 años, proceden de varios campamentos del Sahara y han viajado a España para pasar los meses de julio y agosto.
En el acto, que ha tenido lugar en el Salón de Plenos del Consistorio, han estado presentes las familias, el delegado saharaui en Alicante, Lehbib Alisalem, y el presidente de Dajla, Juan Rodríguez, y representantes de diferentes grupos políticos municipales.
En el caso de Ibi, seis niños y niñas han sido acogidos por familias locales. Muchos de ellos repiten la experiencia año tras año, una vivencia muy positiva para ellos por las limitaciones, conflictos y la difícil situación que viven en su país.
El alcalde y la edil de Servicios Sociales, M.ª José Herrero, han obsequiado a los niños con juguetes a modo de bienvenida y también han realizado un llamamiento a la ciudadanía para animar a los ibenses a participar en las acogidas y colaborar en este proyecto solidario que tanto ofrece a los niños y niñas saharauis y a las familias que los acogen.

Sevilla, 23 de septiembre de 2018 (SPS) – El Hospital de las Cinco Llagas en Sevilla sede del Parlamento Andaluz ha sido el lugar elegido por la Vicepresidenta, Mª Teresa Jiménez, para recibir este lunes a una representación de los niños y niñas que participan en el programa Vacaciones en Paz 2018, según una nota de prensa de la Federación Andaluza de Asociaciones Solidarias con el Sahara (FANDAS).
Siete aviones han trasladado este año a estos niños y niñas desde el Desierto de Tinduf hasta Andalucía, para ser acogidos los dos meses de verano por familias andaluzas solidarias.
Vacaciones en paz tiene el objetivo de contribuir al bienestar de los menores saharauis, beneficiándose de revisiones médicas, de una alimentación más equilibrada, y además pueden conocer otras culturas y estilos de vida.

Seville, July 23, 2018 (SPS) – The Hospital of the Five Llagasin Seville, the seat of the Andalusian Parliament, was the place chosen by the Vice President, Mrs. Teresa Jiménez, to receive a representatives of the Sahrawi children participating on Monday. in the Vacations of Peace Program 2018, according to a press release from the Andalusian Federation of Associations in Charity with the Sahara (FANDAS).
Seven planes have moved this year these children from the Desert of Tindouf to Andalusia, to be welcomed two months of summer by Andalusian families in solidarity with Sahrawi people.
Vacations in peace aims to contribute to the welfare of Sahrawi children, benefiting from medical check-ups, a more balanced diet, and they can also learn about other cultures and lifestyles.

Ariza recalled the support given in September by all the groups of the Andalusian Parliament against the plundering of the natural resources of Western Sahara, and has shown solidarity, as well as the whole Federation it represents, with the Andalusian fishermen who live in permanent dispute over the Agreements between the European Union and Morocco. Washington, 23 juil 2018 (SPS) La compagnie américaine Innophos a annoncé dans un communiqué l’arrêt des achats de minerai de phosphate sahraoui, une décision constituant un nouveau revers pour le Maroc qui poursuit le pillage illégal des ressources du Sahara occidental.
«Dans le cadre de l’engagement d’Innophos à l’égard de la responsabilité sociale globale et de la bonne gestion des entreprises, Innophos ne participera plus indirectement à la chaîne d’approvisionnement en matières premières provenant de la région du Sahara Occidental en Afrique», a indiqué la compagnie américaine dans un communiqué.
Client clé du phosphate du Sahara occidental, Innophos Holdings a cessé ses achats directs auprès de l’exportateur marocain au Sahara occidental, mais a maintenu son approvisionnement en phosphate sahraoui auprès de la compagnie canadienne d’importation de fertilisants PotashCorp, baptisée aujourd’hui Nutrien INC après sa fusion avec un autre importateur canadien Agrium INC.
«La compagnie n’a pas effectué des achats directement (du Sahara occidental) depuis trois ans», a précisé Innophos dans son communiqué.
Par cette décision, Innophos met fin à son implication dans la commercialisation illégale des ressources sahraouies.
L’observatoire des ressources du Sahara occidental, a révélé dans son rapport 2016 sur le commerce mondial des phosphates du Sahara Occidental, que la compagnie américaine Innophos avait été un acheteur clé de phosphate provenant du Sahara occidental.
Les deux usines de Nutrien INC, et Innophos à Geismar en Louisiane sont reliées par un pipeline transportant les dérivés de phosphate.
La compagnie américaine avait admis dans son dernier rapport annuel de 2016 l’achat du minerai conflictuel à travers PotashCorp.
«Nous sommes également soumis à des risques découlant des conditions sociales et politiques locales dans les juridictions d’où provient le minerai de phosphate qui soutient nos activités», a souligné le groupe dans son rapport.
«Le minerai de phosphate utilisée par PCS (PotashCorp) pour approvisionner en MGA (Merchant Grade Acid) notre usine de Geismar, en Louisiane est l’objet de ces conditions politiques et sociales au Sahara occidental, où PCS s’approvisionne en minerai de phosphate, territoire qui a connu une longue histoire de bouleversements sociaux et politiques», a-t-il constaté.
Lundi, l’Association pour la surveillance des ressources et la protection de l’environnement au Sahara occidental (AMRPENWS) a salué la décision de la compagnie américaine, qualifiant cette démarche de nouvelle victoire pour la question sahraouie. (SPS)

El-Aaiun (Occupied Territories), July 23, 2018 (SPS) – The Association for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons has reported that the administration of the local prison Tiflet 2 confiscated the right of the Sahrawi political prisoner, one of Gdeim Izik group, Bashir Khaddah, to treatment when they suddenly canceled his transfer to hospital.
The source indicated that the prison administration deliberately had canceled an appointment with a doctor for examinations at eye level, which was scheduled for Wednesday in the Moroccan city of Lekhmisat. The Sahrawi political prisoner revealed that the prison administration claimed that he had refused to undergo any medical examination inside or outside the prison.
Sahrawi political prisoner, Bashir Khaddah, stressed that the prison administration Tiflet 2, in addition to denying their previous commitments, were again trying to promote false allegations aimed at circumventing his legitimate rights, knowing that since December he had been waiting for an appointment with a doctor and to enjoy his right to treatment and medication. One of the most important companies in the controversial phosphate business in Western Sahara is ending its involvement. Innophos Holding’s exit might lead to the US totally terminating its decade-long imports from the occupied territory.

«As part of Innophos’ commitment to overall social responsibility and good corporate stewardship, Innophos will no longer indirectly participate in a raw material supply chain which sources phosphate rock from the Western Sahara region in Africa, an area from which the Company has not directly purchased raw materials for more than three years», Innophos Holdings wrote in a press release on 2 July 2018.
The decision could lead to another massive blow to Moroccan government, in that phosphate rock that it illegally exports from Western Sahara to North America will come to a complete stop.
In its report P for Plunder 2016, published in April 2017, Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) for the first time reported that Innophos most likely is the main client of the only importing factory in the United States of phosphate rock originating from Western Sahara. WSRW drew the conclusion by referring to a pipeline that had been constructed between the factories of the importer PotashCorp (now renamed to Nutrien) in Louisiana and the purchaser Innophos. The pipeline transports phosphate derivatives from the first to the latter.
Shortly after, in its 2016 annual report, Innophos for the first time confirmed that the information was correct:
«We are also subject to risks stemming from local social and political conditions in those jurisdictions where the phosphate rock that supports our operations is sourced. The phosphate rock that it utilized by PCS to supply MGA to our Geismar, Louisiana facility is subject to those social and political conditions in Western Sahara, where PCS sources the phosphate rock, which territory has had a long history of social and political upheaval. If PCS is unable to source phosphate rock or sufficient amounts of phosphate rock, our MGA supply would be disrupted and our ability to manufacture our products could be materially adversely affected», Innophos wrote last year.
The fact that Innophos is ending its purchases of such rock will have large consequences for the involvement of the one importing into the US: Nutrien. A likely scenario is that Nutrien will end its imports to the US altogether, even though a decision has not yet been announced. Nutrien has twice this year hinted that something like that might happen, in continuation of its decision to also stop importing Western Sahara rock into Canadian from late 2018.
During an investor conference on 25 January 2018, the President and CEO of Nutrien, Mr. Chuck Magro stated that a decision regarding its imports to the US (to the legacy company PotashCorp) will be announced «certainly by the middle of the year».
This promise was repeated by Nutrien in a statement to Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC) on 15 June. The new statement says that the decision will be made «before the fall».
The full statement from Nutrien to BHRRC, by the Nutrien representative Richard D. Downey, reads: «Nutrien is a new company as of January this year and the recent merger has created opportunities, particularly for the phosphate business. One of these opportunities is, we will see a significant reduction in our need for offshore imports of phosphate rock. We announced we will be (sic) convert our Redwater phosphate facility to an Ammonium Sulphate facility and will increase production at our existing underutilized facilities in the U.S. which have their own integrated rock supply. As a result, the large majority of our phosphate rock imports from OCP will be eliminated later this year. There is still a small amount of phosphate rock that is required for the Geismer, GA facility. A decision on the need to import rock for this facility is expected after a review of our end product customer needs which is expected to be complete before the fall this year.»
The claim that the imports to Geismar is «small» echoes the comment made by Nutrien’s President and CEO, Mr. Chuck Magro, on 25 January 2018. Mr. Magro had stated the volume of the Geismar imports to constitute «a little bit». However, that is not correct. The imports into the Nutrien (ex-PotashCorp) plant in Geismar has been massive. From WSRW’s daily monitoring of ship traffic, it has been established that the Geismar imports have constituted 2,04 million tonnes from 2012 to 2017, at a value of 250 million USD. All of the proceeds have been ending up in the treasury of the Moroccan government, occupying Western Sahara. The people of Western Sahara have been systematically protesting the trade. The details of each shipment can be found in the WSRW reports P for Plunder for the years 2012-2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.
A number of international investors have blacklisted Nutrien and its customer Innophos for taking part in the dirty trade, while several of the importers are realising the legal risk involved, following landmark judgements in the Court of Justice of the EU, and the arrest of a phosphate transporting vessel in South Africa in 2017.
«We congratulate Innophos in its important decision to halt the sourcing of conflict minerals in Western Sahara. The people of Western Sahara now anticipates the decision of Nutrien with keen interest. Considering that Nutrien now sees its main or only client in US end, we expect Nutrien to no longer be involved in any sourcing of phosphate rock from Western Sahara from the end of 2018. If the Geismar plant stops its purchases, it would mean that the decades-long imports into the US will have come to a complete stop. This is fantastic news for the Saharawi people», WSRW coordinator Sara Eyckmans said.
Western Sahara Resource Watch sent its latest letters to Nutrien on 21 February 2018 and on 28 May 2018 and to Innophos on 3 March 2017 and 1 March 2018. None of these four letters was responded to.
A Mexican subsidiary of US registered Innophos Holdings was previously an important and long-term direct importer of Western Sahara phosphate rock. But since 2015, WSRW has not observed any shipments to Innophos’ plant in Coatzalcoalcos, Mexico.
The phosphate mine in Western Sahara has been Morocco’s most important source of income since the occupation began, but importers are now shying away. From 2019, New Zealand farmers will be the only clients of the dirty rock, after over a dozen countries have ended the trade, besides a Moroccan owned importing company in India. (SPS)
